Friends of the Earth Middle East (FoEME) needs your help. Israelis, Palestinians and Jordanians work together at FoEME to protect our common environment and create viable conditions for lasting peace in the region.
One of the more visible efforts this non-governmental agency has adopted is the Aqaba-Eilat Sustainable Tourism Project. The goal is to create awareness among the local and tourist populations of the area's fragile ecosystem and to take the steps necessary to preserve the environment for future generations.
Clean-up campaigns, both on the beach and under water, are regularly conducted, involving schoolchildren and scuba divers, from both sides of the border.

Volunteers of all ages are always needed. You can sign up for a few hours, days - or longer. Here is a list of job descriptions.
Beach Clean Up. Although the municipality tries to keep the beaches clean, more help is needed. Plastic bags abound and often are blown into the sea where they kill sea creatures. Volunteers are needed to clean up on the beach and under the water. Perfect job for snorkelers, scuba divers, and non-swimmers. Location: Eilat and Aqaba beaches.
Bay Watch. Patrol the Coral Beach Nature Reserve. Your job is to prevent visitors from swimming out of the marked areas and to remind visitors that feeding the fish is forbidden. Volunteers will be invited to snorkel along the protected coral reef at the Reserve. Location: Eilat.
Bird Watching Center Maintenance. The area is well-known as a bird migration center and is host to a variety of birds. Volunteers are needed at the Eilat Birdwatching Center to help maintain it and keep it clean. Location: Eilat.
Photographers. Volunteer from behind a camera lens as you photo-document the activities in the area. Specific assignments will be given out at the sign-up. Film and developing provided. You bring the camera. Location: Eilat and Aqaba.
Office Work. The overworked FoEME staff always has gal/guy Friday tasks to delegate. Location: Aqaba.
Special Projects. Tourists who are in the area during a special project - Earth Day, Clean Up the World, Reef Check - are welcome to help with organizing and staffing. Location: Eilat and Aqaba.
