One of Israel's leading
actresses, Gila Almagor is also
a highly acclaimed author.
Gila's personal story echoes the
story of war-torn Europe and
the birth of Israel. Her father died before she was
born and Gila grew up in children's homes - all too common
in those years.
She made her stage debut when she was only 17.
Gila wrote The Summer of Aviya - an autobiographical
work which was later made into an award-winning movie.
Under the Domim Tree
takes place in a youth village in Israel where
teenage survivors of the Holocaust live together, each with
his or her own personal tragedy.
