Aviva Bar-Am

A native of Minnesota, Aviva Bar-Am immigrated to Israel in 1968 and has lived in Jerusalem ever since. She holds a degree in social work from the Hebrew University, and during her years as a staff correspondent at the Jerusalem Post published articles on social issues, opened a newspaper hot-line for English speakers and had her own Consuming Interest column. But the highlight of her work at the Jerusalem Post was a weekly two-page travel column called "Landscapes" that appeared in the Jerusalem Post Magazine until 1995.
Since that time Aviva has written and produced five guides to Israel, engrossing volumes that blend together history, nature and folklore and are brushed with a light, journalistic touch. Aviva's Israeli-born husband Shmuel accompanied her on thousands of material-gathering trips around the country and took the brilliant photos that enliven all her books.
