The Name, Govrin's first novel, deals with the legacy of tragedy. Govrin explores the way women deal with their memories both on personal and cultural levels. The Name tells the story of the daughter of Holocaust survivors and her desperate efforts to escape her fate in life.

Govrin speaks from an ethnic and feminist perspective. Hers is the voice of an Israeli Jewish woman whose writing has been influenced by Chaim Nachman Bialik and S.Y. Agnon. According to Govrin, she is unique among her peers in her linkage of European literature, American literature, and Jewish sources. The avante garde incorporation of source material with modern writing further distinguishes her.

Govrin summarizes her approach by saying: "In this way I have been able to create a new mode of writing in Hebrew that extends beyond the subject matter."

Award-winning author, poet, and director, she directs theater and teaches at the Jerusalem School for Visual Theater. Govrin is married and lives in Jerusalem.
